Since its inception, the American Renaissance Theater Company has been home to over 500 professional actors, writers, directors, composers/musicians. Among the number of gifted playwrights are recipients of writing grants and awards, including the Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship for Playwriting, the Shubert Fellow in Playwriting, the Jerry Kaufman Award in Playwriting, the Puffin Foundation Award, the MCAF Award, the NC Playwright Fellowship and the Berilla Kerr Award. Many plays have emerged from ARTC workshops and gone on to major successes.

The Good Counselor by Kathryn Grant (formerly Wonderful Counselor) received the 2010 Jerry Kaufman Award and was seen in developmental workshops and readings at the LAByrinth's summer intensive, the Abingdon Theatre, the Barrow Group Theater and at Ensemble Studio Theater. It received a full maintstage production at Premiere Stages Theater in July, 2010. Handicapped People In Their Formal Attire, Kathryn Grant’s latest play, has been seen at the Actor’s Studio Playwright and Director’s Unit. Her play,The Wound of Love, was produced by the Penguin Repertory in 1996. It was also received productions at The Actors Studio and at the Provincetown Rep. The Wound of Love was co-produced by ARTC Off-Broadway at The John Houseman Theatre in 2000. Her play Aliyah, was seen in the Octoberfest at Ensemble Studio Theater. www.kathryngrantplaywright.com
Lawnchairs by Nancy Hasty received the 2009 Jerry Kaufman Award and a mainstage production at The Electric Theatre Company in Scranton, PA. Her play, The Director, starring John Shea, ran Off-Broadway for over six months to critical and popular acclaim and won “Recommended Play” status from The New York Times. Florida Girls, her one-woman show, toured several states after its Off-Broadway run and she continues to perform it around the country. Ms. Hasty’s play, Bobbi Boland, premiered Off-Broadway in 2001 and received its first international production when it opened in Tokyo in 2005.
